What’s The T.
It was back to business for RAY CHU as the Contemporary designer from Taipei, Taiwan, brought his “WHAT’S THE T.” Autumn Winter 2023 collection to London Fashion Week. Always championing Gender Fluidity with stunning Ready To Wear pieces, CHU is an unapologetically bold and disruptive designer with collections that ooze sex appeal. Unlike previous collections that focused on heartbreak and reminiscing, this season's capsule is all about bouncing back, living in the moment, and embracing impulsiveness.
Featuring clean silhouettes in a mature monochromatic colour scheme, intermixed with vibrant pieces in turquoise, chestnut brown, mint green, and hints of pink, the WHAT’S THE T. collection is tied together by the brand's signature lightning bolt motif. The motif appears throughout the collection in the form of metal hardware, stitching details, and accessories.
CHU aims to celebrate the sexiness of independence by transforming classic professional pieces into fun and alluring items. Notable pieces in the collection include a classic tailored shirt adorned with mint green sequins, a pair of knee-length metallic shorts that sparkle, and the brand's signature micro mini skirt featuring an oversized buckle, transforming traditional professional clothing into playful and seductive items.
This season also sees RAY CHU teaming up with Tenga, a Japanese adult brand, collaborating to explore the concept of pleasure in an artistic way. The collaboration aims to emphasize that pleasure and desire are universal and transcend gender identity, race, and class.
By empowering people to find freedom through love and pleasure, the collaboration culminates in a show finale featuring a dress with pockets perfectly designed to fit Tenga, symbolizing how desire can be carried with ease, anywhere, anytime.
In line with the theme of harnessing desire for liberation, CHU is also partnering with That Gay Creation, a sex-positive queer gift shop, to launch a lifestyle range that includes candles and homeware. This collaboration seeks to promote sex positivity in all areas of life and challenge the boundaries of what is considered provocative or shocking. These eco-friendly and playful lifestyle pieces spread joy through a sex-positive lens and will be released in the coming months.
