Superpowers - Natasha Zinko AW23

‘Don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry’

This season Natasha Zinko explored our inner imperium with her AW collection putting powerful women at the centre-point of the collection and runway, channelling the duality of two Marvel cousins, Hulk and She Hulk. Pencil skirts, fitted blazers , white silk tie blouses demonstrated the interplay of our formal and more savage selves breaking through as blazers had ruptured seams , ripped skirts and spikes with accessories that further punctuated the sentiment like the rippling hulk belt, feminized trousers and shredded denim referencing the Hulk’s power piercing through the clothes as it does from Marvel’s pages.

She Hulk is a lawyer, something that resonates with the designer having originally studied law before transitioning to womenswear and jewellery. Natasha can be no stranger to the interpretation of strong women in a male-dominated environment and she has developed this thought further, through her craft. There’s a common thread through her work; the provocative power of design in both her jewellery and clothes, and even her logo has spikes..

For AW23 It’s a play on the power of super heroism and the blurring of perceptions of what is constituted as powerful or adverse, as women continue to strive to define themselves, ‘the monster women, has to be revealed to conquer and equalise a world run by men, and somewhere beyond the layers of civility the collection explores exactly what it takes to unleash it.’

As always Natasha Zinko utilises her playful aesthetic to highlight deeper social conversations and what better way to ignite our passions and make us think than the playful and transformational power of clothes. A strong look that emits our inner power may not be to everyone’s liking, but they certainly won’t miss it.
